Important Changes at Marshall’s Little Art Gallery

In March of 2021, Tracey opened Marshall’s Little Art Gallery. It has been a much-needed and well-received collaboration with many of Greensboro’s artists and an ideal collaboration with Irving Park Art and Frame. North Carolina artists and art-lovers alike have had access to a rotating array of gift-sized artistic offerings in the gallery and frequent events featuring fresh art by NC artists. We have hosted both solo art shows and also themed, juried group shows.

Now that owner Renee Thomas is selling the frame shop, however, and with a number of other personal challenges on the horizon, Tracey has decided to pause MLAG while searching for her ideal new space.

New Chapter

The first year of MLAG reminded Tracey that she loves both working with local artists and being immersed in the local art community. She also loves owning a gallery again. This remains true and a part of future planning. Tracey wrote to MLAG artists: “I definitely see all of this in my future. As we enter the new year, however, with Renee Thomas selling Irving Park Art and Frame and me being uncertain of how that will unfold, I decided to pause MLAG for a while. It was time to step out of that situation which carries so much uncertainty, and work toward a future chapter of the gallery, over which I have more control. I certainly wish the best for Renee, as well as whoever decides to buy the shop.

To be clear, this pause is not an end to Marshall's Little Art Gallery. Instead, I'm working to manifest my ideal vision for the gallery.”

The Ideal Future of MLAG Looks Like This:

A 4-6 thousand square foot space which consists of:

  • Gallery space with two showrooms,

  • Two classroom spaces,

  • 10-12 studio spaces available for artists to rent,

  • An artist hang-out area with room for a coffee bar and possibly even a wine bar.

  • The space will be in a safe neighborhood,

  • With ample parking for day-to-day classes and events.

  • It will have an artsy look.

  • I would love to either collaborate with a partner who owns the building or find a space that has rent reasonable enough that the business can support itself.

All of this will allow Tracey to continue supporting local artists with ease, expanding on the vision that was born in Irving Park Art and Frame this past year.

She wrapped up her artist announcement this way: “There is obviously no way to know in advance how long it will take to find such a space. However now that our MLAG Artists have an idea of my dream space, if you come across such a building, I trust that you'll let me know about it immediately!

Stay tuned for exciting times ahead!
